The Jiu Jitsu Coaches

Our Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu program is led by experienced, credentialed coaches who bring depth, intention, and professionalism to every class. Each coach is deeply invested in teaching — not just demonstrating — with a focus on helping students develop real understanding, confidence, and consistency on the mat.

From a student’s first class to long-term advancement, our coaching staff prioritizes clear communication, thoughtful guidance, and a respectful training environment where individuals can progress safely and purposefully.

Kurt brings over 20 years of hands-on experience in the fitness world, with a background rooted in martial arts, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, sports performance, injury prevention, and rehabilitation. As the owner and head coach at PFT, he’s known for his welcoming presence, deep care for his clients, and an unmatched ability to help people feel seen, capable, and empowered.

With extensive education and certifications across strength training, mobility, movement restoration, and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Kurt’s programming is designed not just for performance — but for life.

He’s a master at identifying the root of movement limitations, mitigating pain, and restoring function in a way that feels both doable & transformative. His passion for the human body runs deep, and his dedication to each individual’s growth is what keeps clients coming back for years.

Kurt also brings this same thoughtful, adaptive coaching style to both Adult and Kids Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu classes, creating an environment that emphasizes safety, respect, confidence, and long-term growth.

Kurt’s training style is innovative, adaptive & encouraging—whether you’re just starting out or pushing into new goals, he meets you exactly where you are and helps you go further than you thought possible.

Owner & Head Coach

David Skora

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Coach

David is a lifelong martial artist with an infectious energy and a genuine love for teaching. Known for his humor, approachability, and ability to connect with students of all backgrounds, David creates an environment where learning is challenging, supportive, and genuinely fun — without losing respect for the art.

David’s martial arts journey began long before Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, earning Black Belts in both American TaeKwonDo and Karate. That lifelong foundation in movement, discipline, and technique shapes the way he teaches today — with structure, clarity, and purpose.

Since beginning his Jiu-Jitsu training in 2009, David has competed extensively at the local and international levels, earning multiple championships across gi and no-gi divisions. His competition experience includes podium finishes at IBJJF events, Pan Championships, Worlds, Fight to Win, and Brew Jitsu — reflecting both technical skill and consistency over time.

As a coach, David is deeply invested in helping students grow with confidence and intention. He believes Jiu-Jitsu should be both effective and enjoyable, and he takes pride in making complex concepts accessible without watering them down. Whether someone is stepping onto the mats for the first time or refining advanced techniques, David brings enthusiasm, patience, and a strong sense of community to every class.

Outside the gym, David holds a degree in Aviation Management from the University of North Dakota — a background that reflects the same focus, discipline, and attention to detail he brings to his coaching.

Kelly brings decades of experience, humility, and deep respect for the art of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu into every class he teaches. Known for his calm presence and thoughtful instruction, Kelly is deeply committed to helping students truly learn Jiu-Jitsu — not just train it — building skill, confidence, and understanding one step at a time.

With almost 20 years of experience in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Kelly holds a 3rd degree Black Belt under Pedro Sauer and Greg Nelson, and is a 10-time IBJJF Black Belt World Champion. In addition to his Jiu-Jitsu background, Kelly wrestled through college at the University of Minnesota Duluth, bringing roughly 15 years of wrestling experience into his overall grappling foundation. His competitive accomplishments are matched by an equally strong dedication to teaching, mentoring, and preserving the integrity of the art.

Kelly’s approach emphasizes precision, control, and structured progression — ensuring students develop strong fundamentals before layering in complexity. He believes that when technique is taught with clarity and purpose, students not only progress faster, but also train more safely and confidently for the long term.

What truly sets Kelly apart is his passion for helping others experience the same growth, discipline, and fulfillment that Jiu-Jitsu has brought into his own life. Whether guiding a brand-new student through their first class or supporting advanced practitioners on their journey toward promotion, Kelly is invested in each individual’s development — on and off the mats.
